Course Curriculum

The Certified Medical Coder (CMC)® is a certification whereby experienced coding professionals may demonstrate by exam their superior level of outpatient coding knowledge. The certification becomes a currency that validates personal achievement, demonstrates a person's commitment to the profession, improves employer confidence, and can help guard the practice against fraud and abuse. The Certified Medical Coder (CMC)® Online Preparatory course is brought to you by the Practice Management Institute On-Line Learning Center. Online courses are presented in conjunction with Greenville Technical College to provide a variety of targeted course material in a convenient online format. Class offerings include both administrative and nursing CEU eligible courses. All courses are instructor-led, developed by top industry professionals. Each course is designed to provide the most thorough, comprehensive, and up-to-date information relative to the topic. Class size is limited to 25 participants. Online course includes the CMC examination, proctored live in your community. Online course fee is $1,299, which includes online version of the complete CMC course materials, all assignments, faculty advisement, quizzes, and the CMC examination, proctored live in your community. New class begins every other month (see schedule listing).

Class Schedule

Register by choosing from the available classes listed on the grid below. On the first class day, you will receive log-in instructions and password along with course instructor contact information, syllabus, log-in schedule, and password. Once logged in, you must complete the course within the timeframe given. All instructional materials, assignments, and quizzes are posted online and can be accessed at any time. Course Prerequisites

The Certified Medical Coder preparatory program is designed to measure a high level of generalized coding competency. This online course is recommended for candidates with a minimum of one to two years of experience in a medical office and some medical coding experience. For those with less experience, we recommend the following two online introductory courses prior to enrolling in the CMC Online:

Online Class Expectations

Unlike PMI's Self Study program, the CMC Online class has a time limit of approximately 23 days in which to complete the course. Students must plan to dedicate enough time to adhere to course timelines, read course lecture materials as assigned, complete quizzes and activities as directed.
