Standards of Conduct for the Certified Professional

Certified Medical Coder

Practice Management Institute® has approved the Standards of Conduct for the Certified Medical Coder. These standards were developed and approved by the Practice Management Institute® Advisory Board for Certification Programming. Practice Management Institute® strives to provide continuing education opportunities as well as development of ethical requirements and standards for the Certified Medical Coder.

Standards of Conduct describe the actions that would reasonably be expected of the Certified Medical Coder in the performance of his/her duties. The CMC designation indicates career development and accomplishment in physician based procedural and diagnostic coding.

As a CMC you are held to the highest professional standards in the medical industry. You will at all times follow appropriate and legal coding and billing practices according to governmental and third party payer organizations and contracts.

You will support the compliance efforts and reporting system of the medical practice. You will bill only for services that are actually rendered. Services will be coded accurately and only when documentation is provided for the service.


Certified Medical Office Manager

Practice Management Institute® has approved the Standards of Conduct for the Certified Medical Office Manager. These standards were developed and approved by the Practice Management Institute® Advisory Board for Certification Programming. Practice Management Institute® strives to provide continuing education opportunities as well as development of ethical requirements and standards for the Certified Medical Office Manager.

Standards of Conduct describe the actions that would reasonably be expected of the Certified Medical Office Manager in the performance of his/her duties. The CMOM designation indicates professional career development and accomplishment in the area of operational and strategic management of the medical practice. Techniques and methods encompass effective staff management, enhancement of physician productivity and control of the financial aspect of the practice.

As a CMOM you are held to the highest professional standards in the medical industry. You will at all times uphold and follow appropriate and legal practices according to all governmental regulatory controls and third party payer organizations and contracts. You will support the compliance efforts and reporting system of the medical practice.


Certified Medical Insurance Specialist

Practice Management Institute® has approved the Standards of Conduct for the Certified Medical Insurance Specialist. These standards were developed and approved by the Practice Management Institute® Advisory Board for Certification Programming. Practice Management Institute® strives to provide continuing education opportunities as well as development of ethical requirements and standards for the Certified Medical Insurance Specialist.

Standards of Conduct describe the actions that would reasonably be expected of the Certified Medical Insurance Specialist in the performance of his/her duties. The CMIS designation indicates career development and accomplishment in physician based procedural and diagnostic coding as well as maintaining proficiency in the ever-changing reimbursement issues in the healthcare industry.

As a CMIS you are held to the highest professional standards in the medical industry. You will at all times follow appropriate and legal coding and billing practices according to all governmental and third party payor organizations and contracts.

You will support the compliance efforts and reporting system of the medical practice. You will bill only for services that are actually rendered. Services will be coded accurately and only when documentation is provided for the service.
