Sunjanel Avecilla, EMT-P, CPC, CMOM, CMC
Sunjanel is PMI Instructor and Senior Consultant with the Physician Practice S.O.S. Group, Inc. Her wide range of experience includes Management of the Division of Laboratory Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center, followed by administrative and clinical practice in family medicine, cardiology and general surgery. Sunjanel has experience teaching coding, medical record auditing and reimbursement, OSHA, OIG, and HIPAA compliance. Her strengths include personnel management and understanding government rules. Her medical practice management experience has made her a much sought after medical management consultant throughout the country. She is a licensed paramedic and nurse who worked for the U.S. Army. She holds certifications in practice management (CMOM) and physicians practice coding (CMC). She also holds memberships in the GA-MGMA and AAPC.
Jerry Bridge, President, Bridge Practice Management
Jerry Bridge is a nationally known practice management trainer, coach, and motivational speaker. An engaging and innovative trainer, he has more than two decades of experience training more than 40,000 health care providers, practice managers and administrative staff. Jerry’s expertise includes billing and collections, customer service, practice management, communication and mission statement development and implementation. He has developed an audio/visual training series of his most popular programs, and has authored several articles in national publications and newsletters. Ione Monlezun Broussard, CMC, CMIS, CMOM
Ione is the Administrative Education Manager for the Faculty Development and Practice Management Program at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. She is a veteran of the health care industry with more than 25 years of experience in medical practice management. Her broad spectrum of experience includes business development, purchasing, and governmental guidelines. Prior to joining PMI, Ms. Broussard was a practice management consultant specializing in practice coordination and assessment for healthcare providers. She has comprehensive knowledge of relations, equipment, physical plant, compliance, coding, and governmental regulations. Formerly the administrator for a large MSO, Ms. Broussard supervised multiple clinic sites. She was responsible for business development in the Southwest Louisiana region, which included the conversion of private practices to MSO status. Ione Broussard is a self-motivated professional with a practical, results-oriented approach to improving services at every level of the healthcare system. Additionally, she is a licensed private investigator who specializes in healthcare fraud and abuse.
Audrey Coaxum, CHI, CMC, CMIS, CMOM
Audrey teaches medical office professionals across the country as a PMI faculty member. She is a Certified Healthcare Instructor with more than 15 years of well-rounded health care experience. and has conducted in-services and developed training programs and assessments on practice management and compliance. She has overseen the development and implementation of policy and procedures relating to practice management, risk management and compliance based on federal, state, NCQA, HIPAA and OSHA standards. She has served on Quality Assurance, Medical Management, Risk Management, Network Development, Utilization Review, Health Disparities Collaborative and Compliance Boards.
Linda D’Spain, CMPE, CMC, CMIS, CMOM
Linda D’Spain is a PMI faculty member with a range of experience in health care administration. represents a number of medical groups as a leader, manager and practice growth specialist. She is an accomplished presenter with more than 18 years in practice management. She has been instrumental in PMI’s program development and oversight She is a Board Certified Medical Practice Executive through the American College of Medical Practice Executives and is currently working toward her fellowship in Health Care Administration. She holds all three certifications through Practice Management Institute and conducts regular training for physicians and their staff across the country.
D.K. Everitt
Mr. Everitt is a Healthcare Compliance Officer, whose work includes assessing hundreds of medical facilities, implementing Corporate Integrity Agreements and OSHA compliance training. He has authored several compliance books and serves as president of The Compliance Division, L.L.C. He has spent the last 25 years developing and managing corporate compliance programs and shares his talents as an Adjunct Lecturer and Preceptor for Trinity University's Health Care Administration Graduate Studies department. He has shared his knowledge with participants at several of PMI’s conferences. Mr. Everitt also serves on PMI’s Contributing Editor, Board of Experts.
Shelley Garrett, CPC, CEC, CMC, CMOM
Shelley is a multi-talented health care leader and teacher with experience in a number of specialized areas. She teaches medical office professionals across the country as a member of PMI’s faculty. She is a former Director of Socioeconomic and Member Advocacy for an international medical specialty society. She has written numerous articles and program manuals on coding, billing, compliance, and governmental regulation and served as the staff liaison to both the AMA CPT Editorial and Relative Value Update Committees (RUC). Her experience includes working directly for the Medicare program, in multi-specialty physician offices and hospital settings, and also serving as a compliance officer and consultant.
Sidney Harrell
Sid serves as Chief Operations Officer MedaPhase, a leading physician business services provider. He has spent more than 15 years in consulting, practice management, and billing operations. He has led small single specialty physician practices and leading billing operations for an organization providing services to over 500 physicians in an academic multi-specialty practice. He is recognized by the Department of Health and Human Services as an IRO, and is a member of MGMA and HBMA.

Jimmie Hebert, CMC, CMIS, CMOM
Jimmie is Area Practice Manager for HCA Healthcare in Houston. She has worked with thousands of physicians and medical groups as a longstanding member of PMI’s faculty team. Her background includes management of several multi-physician, multi-specialty clinics. She has conducted managed care contract analyses and negotiation and has extensive training and experience in CPT and ICD-9-CM coding as well as effective reimbursement and collection techniques. Jimmie is well-versed in Medicare issues, coding and compliance as well as human resource management and patient advocacy. She is a Certified Medical Coder (CMC), a Certified Medical Office Manager (CMOM), and a Certified Medical Insurance Specialist (CMIS). She is a gifted teacher with a large following of PMI certified professionals and program participants.
John A. Heller, JD
John represents and defends clients against claims for violations of state and federal civil rights laws, discrimination statutes and associated state torts. He is also a trained mediator. He provides training to managers, supervisors and employees concerning good employment practices, and will share advice on employment actions, investigations, and compliance with federal and state laws. John is Certified with the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Labor and Employment Law.
Pam Hellstrom, MBA, MT(ASCP)H, Vice President Compliance & Risk, CHRISTUS Medical Group
Pam is an accomplished health care professional with experience in all levels of administration and compliance. She is a member of the senior leadership team for CHRISTUS Medical Group where she oversees clinical quality, patient satisfaction, risk management, compliance, HIPAA and safety. Her numerous accomplishments include the successful implementation of PQRI and monitoring program for multiple specialties, development of clinical quality goals and standards for electronic medical records, and reduction of medical malpractice premiums through risk management program. Pam is the former Vice President of Professional Services and Learning Centers for PMI. She developed and taught numerous training programs and was instrumental in new product development, consultative and auditing services. She led PMI’s Houston and Dallas Learning Centers, and hired, trained and evaluated members of PMI’s faculty team.
Laura Lake, Founder, The PracticePros
Laura has been involved in the interactive and traditional marketing industry since 1998. Lake’s success in the marketing world comes from her understanding of the challenges medical practices face. She is a sought-after speaker and consultant who educates and advises physicians and practice managers, with her straight-forward, interactive approach, on marketing strategy development and implementation. Laura serves as the current marketing columnist at About.com (a division of the New York Times) and has since 2002. She shares her extensive marketing knowledge in the more than 600 articles published and in various publications such as Missouri Medicine, USA Today, college textbooks and she has just finished a book that will be released and published in March 2009.
Robert Liles, JD
Robert is principal shareholder of Liles Parker, PLLC, a Washington DC law firm. His practice handles health care fraud defense and regulatory matters, representing health care providers in both civil and criminal proceedings. Before entering private practice, Robert served as Deputy Director for Legal Programs at the US Department of Justice, Executive Office for Unites States Attorneys. Prior to that he was their first National Health Care Fraud Coordinator. Mr. Liles has taught and lectured at more than 50 national conferences and seminars to DOJ prosecutors, investigators, auditors, and industry representatives on a variety of civil and criminal fraud and regulatory issues. He serves as faculty for the Georgetown University / National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He is a long-time contributor to PMI conferences and projects.
Linda Lindsey, CMC, CMIS, CMOM, CCP
Linda is a Certified Compliance Professional with more than twentyfive years of clinical and administrative experience in both hospital and multi-specialty group practices. She received specialized training in Quality Assurance at Johns Hopkins University and worked with a large HMO for eight years designing and implementing Quality Assurance programs based on health outcomes. Prior to joining Practice Management Institute, Linda worked as a Practice Administrator for several multi-specialty groups. For five years she designed and taught the curriculum for an insurance processing course for a proprietary school that included coding, insurance processing, accounts receivable management and personnel management. She has special training in Federal insurance guidelines and is considered an expert in this area. Additionally, Linda has taught health education for eight medical groups covering three counties. She also has published results of research from Quality Assurance programs at New York Academy of Medicine. Linda reviews textbooks for two major publishers. Topics include insurance processing, coding, law, ethics, and administrative medical assistance.
Regina Mixon, IRO, TPA, CMC, CMIS, CMOM, CPC, CPC-I
Regina is PMI’s Director of Associate Faculty Development and has taught PMI’s seminars and certification programs since 2000. She is CEO of The Physicians Practice S.O.S. Group, Inc. She and her Atlanta-based company are approved through the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) as an Independent Review Organization (IRO). She works with physician practices that have been placed under Corporate Integrity Agreements by the OIG. Regina holds certifications in medical practice management, physician practice coding and medical insurance billing. She and her company are a licensed Third Party Administrator. She has held key positions for physician groups and has managed billing operations for more than 80 physicians and 10 sub-specialties. She is active in the business community with memberships in the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). She was honored in the Biz Journals’ Business First of Kentucky as one of the areas top 40 under forty business professionals.
