Ione Monlezun Broussard, CMC, CMIS, CMOM

Ione BroussardMs. Broussard is a veteran of the healthcare industry with more than 25 years of experience in medical practice management. Her broad spectrum of experience includes business development, purchasing, and governmental guidelines. Prior to joining PMI, Ms. Broussard was a practice management consultant specializing in practice coordination and assessment for healthcare providers. She has comprehensive knowledge of relations, equipment, physical plant, compliance, coding, and governmental regulations. Formerly the administrator for a large MSO, Ms. Broussard supervised multiple clinic sites. She was responsible for business development in the Southwest Louisiana region, which included the conversion of private practices to MSO status. Ione Broussard is a self-motivated professional with a practical, results-oriented approach to improving services at every level of the healthcare system. Additionally, she is a licensed private investigator who specializes in healthcare fraud and abuse.


Audrey Coaxum, CHI, CMC, CMOM

Audrey CoaxumAudrey Coaxum is a hands-on specialist with more than fifteen years of well-rounded experience in the healthcare industry. She has overseen the development and implementation of policy and procedures relating to practice management, risk management and compliance based on federal, state, NCQA, HIPAA and OSHA standards. She has conducted in-services and developed training programs and assessments on practice management and compliance. She has served on Quality Assurance, Medical Management, Risk Management, Network Development, Utilization Review, Health Disparities Collaborative and Compliance Boards. Audrey has extensive knowledge and experience in medical billing and coding, utilization review and practice management, but her passion and area of focus has been compliance and risk management. Audrey is a Certified Healthcare Instructor, who has trained many healthcare personnel, including physicians on medical documentation and compliance issues relating to the coding, billing and reimbursement for services. She has conducted many chart audits to identify physician utilization trends, compliance and potential areas of risk. As a result, she helped to establish coding policy and procedure and resolved compliance issues. Her experience as a manager of network development and working as a compliance officer for a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center, helped her to excel in budgeting decisions, contract negotiations, grant writing and cost report preparation.


Maxine Inman Collins, MBA, CPA, CMC, CMIS, CMOM

Maxine CollinsMaxine has more than twenty years of experience in medical practice management, adult education and general business. She has taught courses at various levels, including teaching business communications and accounting at Midwestern State University in Texas. Maxine has extensive experience teaching administrative and clinical personnel essential medical office skills such as medical terminology, CPT and ICD-9 coding, reimbursement, OSHA, and HIPAA compliance. She is adept at personnel management, government rules and regulations, accounting and budgeting. Additionally, her experience with practice marketing and development make her a knowledgeable and much sought-after practice management resource. Maxine has served as an administrator of a multi-specialty clinic, where she was responsible for all clinic operations including medical records, billing and collections, OSHA, HIPAA and Medicare compliance, and all accounting operations. She also has experience in medical practice consulting, and has successfully launched multiple practices. Maxine holds a MBA in business from Midwestern State University, and is presently working toward a doctorate in Health Care Administration. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Medical Coder.


Linda D'Spain, CMPE, CMC, CMIS, CMOM

Linda D'SpainLinda L. D'Spain is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable professional with an extensive background in the medical field. During her 18 years in medical practice management, she has managed cardiology, pediatric orthopedic, gynecology and reproductive endocrinology practices in San Antonio, Texas. Linda has taught CPT and ICD-9 coding, fraud and abuse compliance, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, in addition to serving as a consultant for a variety of organizations and medical practices. She has served as an administrator for a medical group practice where she was responsible for leading, managing, and growing the practice. She maintained broad responsibilities for all administrative functions of the medical group including: Business and Clinical Operations, Financial Management, Governance and Organizational Dynamics, Human Resource Management, Information System Management, Planning and Marketing and Risk Management. Linda has earned the designation of a Board Certified Medical Practice Executive through the American College of Medical Practice Executives. She has also earned the Certified Medical Coder (CMC), Certified Medical Insurance Specialist (CMIS) and Certified Medical Office Manager (CMOM) designations. Linda is currently working toward her fellowship in Health Care Administration.


Shelley Garrett, CPC, CEC, CMC, CMOM

Shelley GarrettShelley has more than 15 years of healthcare experience. Her experience includes working directly for the Medicare program, in multi-specialty physician offices and hospital settings, and also serving as a compliance officer and consultant. Prior to joining Practice Management Institute, Shelley worked as the Director of Socioeconomic and Member Advocacy for an international medical specialty society. Her duties included establishing and instructing a national certification program for her specialty society, providing coding and billing support to its members, and serving as a seminar speaker for coding and compliance issues. Additionally she has written numerous articles and program manuals on coding, billing, compliance, and governmental regulation and served as the staff liaison to both the AMA CPT Editorial and Relative Value Update Committees (RUC). In addition to being a Certified Medical Coder (CMC), and Certified Medical Office Manager (CMOM), through PMI, she is also a Certified Endocrine Coder (CEC) through the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) as well as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Instructor for the Professional Medical Coding Curriculum for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).


Jimmie Hebert, CMC, CMIS, CMOM

Jimmie HebertJimmie has traveled the country teaching physicians, medical practice administrators and staff about the latest issues in medical practice management. Her background includes management of several multi-physician, multi-specialty clinics. She is a Certified Medical Coder (CMC), a Certified Medical Office Manager (CMOM), and a Certified Medical Insurance Specialist (CMIS). Additionally, she has special expertise in the areas of human resource management and patient advocacy. Jimmie has conducted managed care contract analyses and negotiation and has extensive training and experience in CPT and ICD-9-CM coding as well as effective reimbursement and collection techniques. She is well-versed in Medicare issues, coding and compliance. She is also a contributing writer for The LINK, PMI's monthly newsletter for medical office professionals. Her articulate, down-to-earth communication style makes her one of PMI's most sought-after speakers.


Linda Lindsey, CMIS, CMOM, CCP

Linda LindseyLinda is a Certified Compliance Professional with more than twentyfive years of clinical and administrative experience in both hospital and multi-specialty group practices. She received specialized training in Quality Assurance at Johns Hopkins University and worked with a large HMO for eight years designing and implementing Quality Assurance programs based on health outcomes. Prior to joining Practice Management Institute, Linda worked as a Practice Administrator for several multi-specialty groups. For five years she designed and taught the curriculum for an insurance processing course for a proprietary school that included coding, insurance processing, accounts receivable management and personnel management. She has special training in Federal insurance guidelines and is considered an expert in this area. Additionally, Linda has taught health education for eight medical groups covering three counties. She also has published results of research from Quality Assurance programs at New York Academy of Medicine. Linda reviews textbooks for two major publishers. Topics include insurance processing, coding, law, ethics, and administrative medical assistance.


Regina Mixon, TPA, CMPM, CMBS, CCP, CPC
Director of Associate Faculty Development

Regina MixonRegina Mixon has been an Instructor for PMI for six years. She is also CEO of The Physicians Practice S.O.S. Group Inc. and has over 20 years of medical management and education experience. Regina and Atlanta-based company are approved through the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) as an Independent Review Organization (IRO). Regina is licensed as a Third Party Administrator (TPA) and holds certifications in medical practice management, physician practice coding and medical insurance billing. Regina works with several physician practices that have been placed under Corporate Integrity Agreements by the OIG. She has been in high demand across the country for her unique style of teaching over the last several years on topics such as reimbursement, coding, compliance, and practice management. She has held key positions at top companies throughout Kentucky. She served as Physician Practice/CBO Manager of Columbia/HCA Kentucky division’s 40+ practices across the state and as Director of Billing and Reimbursement for University Medical Associates in Louisville where she directed and managed the billing operations for more than 80 physicians and 10 sub-specialities. She is active in the business community with memberships in the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). She was honored in the Biz Journals’ Business First of Kentucky as one of the areas top 40 under forty business professionals.


Maggie Teter, CMC, CMIS, CMOM

Maggie TeterMaggie has more than 15 years of well-rounded healthcare experience, including comprehensive knowledge of medical practice management, coding, billing, claim resolution, and regulatory policies relevant to the practice, including HIPAA and OSHA. Prior to joining PMI, Maggie worked as an office manager for a rural family practice. Maggie also worked, and continues to work, as the primary coder for a busy surgical practice, where she is responsible for accounts receivable/collections, billing, pre-authorizations and referrals, as well as implementation, training, and monitoring of practice compliance programs. In addition, Maggie spends a great deal of her time developing, training, and implementing compliance plans as a consultant. She also conducts chart audits, as well as works with physicians to improve E&M documentation. Maggie is one of a limited number of instructors in the us who are able to teach to every major coding specialty. She is a self-motivated professional, and became a Certified Health Care Technician through Allegheny College of Maryland. She enjoys a reputation as an instructor who is able to convey complex subject matter into easy to understand terms. Maggie has also been certified as a Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, and is a retired EMT.



Associate Instructors


Jama Allers, CMC, CMA-C

Jama AllersJama has more than 25 years of healthcare experience including extensive knowledge in the areas of practice related matters including risk management, human resources, medical records management, as well as fraud and abuse compliance. Currently, Jama is a leader in educating physicians regarding profitability, negotiating insurance contracts, and navigating appeals and grievances as an employee of the Maryland State Medical Society. Educating physicians and practices is a high priority for Jama. Jama has presented at many Maryland venues such as The Maryland Medical Convention, Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), the Maryland Acupuncture Society and the Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM). Jama also works to educate medical staff through the office risk management seminar series for a medical liability insurance company. Topics range from patient safety, analyzing insurance contracts, and documentation, coding compliance. As a physician advocate, Jama meets regularly with CMS and third party insurance carriers advisory committees to support and promote the interests of doctors everywhere. She also participates as an advisor to the National Sickle Cell Disease Registry. Jama has worked with many regional committees and organizations on HIPAA privacy and security compliance. In October 2004, Jama received the Dr. Henry P and Page M Laughlin Award for distinguished administrative services to the physicians of Maryland. Jama is a contributing writer with a standing practice management column in the MedChi Physician. She also has contributed articles to Maryland Medicine and The Medical Bulletin of Greater Baltimore.



Stephanie Arnold, CMC

Stephanie ArnoldStephanie Arnold has more than 15 years of professional management and leadership experience in the healthcare industry. Her knowledge of CPT & ICD-9 coding, reimbursement education and auditing skills is extremely valued by her peers. She is highly proficient in training physicians, residents, staff and private practices with techniques to maximize the effectiveness of their organization. This is accomplished by implementing educational programs to improve their coding and reimbursement knowledge. Stephanie presently is a Certified Medical Coder and the Practice Manager for the Department of Family Medicine and Comprehensive Care at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. In her capacity as Practice Manager, Stephanie is part of a team that provides additional monthly education to faculty and residents at LSU Health Sciences Center. She has been an Associate Instructor with PMI for two years. Stephanie is the founder of the Shreveport-Bossier Network Chapter and has received the 2007 Outstanding Associate Instructor-National third quarter award.



Jerry Bridge

Jerry BridgeJerry Bridge is a nationally-known practice management trainer, coach, and motivational speaker. He is considered a leader and innovator in the field of training and development with more than two decades of experience. Jerry has trained more than 40,000 healthcare providers, practice managers and administrative staff about billing and collections, customer service, practice management, communication and mission statement development and implementation. He has developed audio seminars and video/DVD training series of programs, and has authored several articles in national publications and newsletters. Jerry knows how to have fun and makes every class entertaining and personalized. His humorous, casual teaching style earns him high marks with program participants.



Angie Brown, CMC, CMIS, CMOM, CMA

Angie BrownAngie Brown has over 20 years of experience in medical practice management and adult education with coding and insurance. Angie has extensive experience teaching CPT, ICD-9-CM, reimbursement, OSHA, and HIPAA compliance. She is adept at government rules and regulations, and personnel management with auditing guidelines. Additionally, her experience within the arena of medical practice management education makes her a knowledgeable and much sought after medical management resource in South Carolina, and throughout the country. Angie serves as a Certified Medical Coder, Certified Medical Insurance Specialist, Certified Medical Office Manager, Certified Allied Health Instructor, Certified Medical Assistant, and a Certified National Proctor. She has been with Greenville technical College since 1997 as Program Manager and Instructor in the Health Sciences and Nursing Department. She has field experience as a practice administrator and medical consultant. Angie has been a faculty member with PMI for two years, and recently received two of PMI’s highest honors - the Outstanding National Liaison award for 2005, and the Associate Instructor of the Year award for 2006.



Toni J. Emmons, CMC, CPC

Toni EmmonsToni Emmons is a Senior Analyst in the Billing Compliance Department at Texas Tech Health Science Center (TTUHSC) in Amarillo, Texas. She sits on PMI’s National Advisory Board and has more than 19 years of experience in medical coding. Prior to holding her current position at TTUHSC she was a Provider Training Specialist for the State of Texas Medicaid contract with both the National Heritage Insurance Company and Texas Medicaid and Healthcare Partnership; Toni also served in the capacity of Provider relations and member services coordinator for Children’s Health Insurance Program with Texas University health Plan; Patient accounts manager and senior patient specialist for the Department of Pediatrics at TTUHSC. Toni attended Amarillo College where she teaches Medical Coding as an Adjunct Faculty member. She works on several health care committees and participates in community organizations by serving in various capacities. Her enthusiastic personality shows her enjoyment of and her commitment to her medical profession.



D. K. Everitt

D. K. EverittMr. Everitt is a Healthcare Compliance Officer, whose work includes assessing hundreds of medical facilities, implementing Corporate Integrity Agreements and OSHA compliance training. He has authored several compliance books and serves as president of The Compliance Division, L.L.C. He has spent the last 25 years developing and managing corporate compliance programs and shares his talents as an Adjunct Lecturer and Preceptor for Trinity University's Health Care Administration Graduate Studies department. He has shared his knowledge with participants at several of PMI’s conferences. Mr. Everitt also serves on PMI’s Contributing Editor Board of Experts.



Marti Geron, CPC, CMC, CMIS, CMOM, CMA, PCS

Marti GeronWith more than 35 years in the healthcare industry, Marti has extensive, hands-on experience in Managing, Consulting, Auditing, Educating, Compliance, and Billing, as well as reimbursement issues and collection techniques. Her background includes management of the majority of medical specialties. Marti has spent the past twenty-five years of her career working for four of the largest healthcare teaching facilities in the nation, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. She has also spent the last ten years as a certified instructor at The University of Texas at Arlington & The University of North Texas. She is a past-member of the American Academy of Professional Coders National Advisory Board and presently serves on The Coding Institute Editorial Advisory Board, and now the Practice Management Institute Advisory Board.



David A. Ginsberg

David GinsbergDavid Ginsberg is co-founder and President of PrivaPlan Associates, Inc. He has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry including physician practice management, rural health practice, managed care organization development and electronic data interchange. For the last several years, Mr. Ginsberg has provided HIPAA and compliance expertise, training and support through PrivaPlan. In the process of developing such compliance resources he has had the opportunity to evaluate electronic health records systems and technologies. Mr. Ginsberg has lectured and provided hands on support for health care organizations who are searching, selecting or implementing Electronic Health Records. Drawing on his extensive compliance background as well as provider work flow management he is helping organizations make sound business decisions in this emerging area. Mr. Ginsberg is the designated electronic health records expert for the Colorado Rural Health Center and has provided expertise to a number of rural health agencies. In addition, Mr. Ginsberg is the lead consultant to the Nebraska Medical Association's efforts to increase adoption of electronic health records known as EHRNebraska. Over the past several years Mr. Ginsberg has lectured extensively in the rural health setting for rural health agencies, the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, HRSA and specific critical access hospitals. He has also assisted several states in their development and implementation of grant programs related to rural HIT adoption. Mr. Ginsberg also provides selection and implementation support to physicians, physician organizations and medical associations related to HIT and electronic health records.



Robert Liles, JD

Robert LilesMr. Liles is principal shareholder of Liles Parker, PLLC, a Washington, DC law firm. He focuses his practice on health care fraud defense and regulatory matters, representing health care providers in both civil and criminal proceedings. Before entering private practice, Robert served as Deputy Director for Legal Programs at the US Department of Justice, Executive Office for United States Attorneys.



Rose B. Moore, CMC, CMOM, CPC, CCP

Rose MooreRose has been a motivating force for hundreds of medical practice professionals on the East Coast, where she has conducted numerous seminars and performed internal training for medical practices. Special assignments have included practice documentation, coding, audits, and operations assessments. She has taught reimbursement, Medicare, office management, risk management, proper coding and documentation, filing clean claims and appeals, and a variety of other topics geared to physicians and medical practice professionals. Currently, Rose is the Physician Practice Advocate for The Medical Society of Virginia. She also holds memberships with the Medical Group Management Association and the American Academy of Professional Coders. She has received specialized training in CPT from the American Medical Association. Rose is a Certified Professional Coder, Certified Compliance Professional, Certified Medical Insurance Specialist, and Certified Medical Office Manager. Rose has served on multiple health care committees and is well versed in practice management issues. Her experience in all aspects of medical practice administration, surgical scheduling, accounts payable/receivable, patient care coordination, make her a much sought-after problem solver in the health care industry.



Gretchen Pike, CMOM

Gretchen PikeGretchen has more than thirty years of experience in the healthcare industry, including medical office management, provider and payer relations, managed care contracting and oversight, patient access services, and employer and consumer relations. In addition to her position as an Associate Instructor with PMI, Gretchen presently works as the Team Leader for Provider and Payer Relations and as the Team Leader for Patient Access Services for Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, IN. She also serves as the present Director for the Hancock Regional Physician Hospital Organization, which includes over 120 primary care and specialty physicians. Gretchen is a self-motivated professional. She maintains professional memberships in the Healthcare Finance Management Association, as well as Indiana Healthcare Access Management Association, where she serves as the current treasurer. She enjoys a reputation as an instructor who brings an authentic, enthusiastic edge to her courses.



Libby Purser, CPC, CMC CMIS, CMOM

Libby PurserLibby has spent the last fourteen years in the Healthcare Industry. For the past ten years she has worked as the Billing & Coding Manager for a clinic which consists of 45 multispecialty physicians. As a Certified Healthcare Instructor, she has been the Senior Instructor at the University of North Texas Medical Billing Specialist programs for the past ten years. She formerly owned her own Billing and Consulting firm where her expertise consisted of keeping her clients abreast of the latest coding updates, and government rules and regulations for maximum reimbursement. She has presented seminars to physician groups on numerous billing and coding topics including E & M, Modifiers and Medicare Reimbursement. Prior to working on the physician billing side she spent years on the payor side for a nationally recognized insurance company.
