Pre-Conference Workshops
Interactive Pre-Conference Workshops
June 1st, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pre-conference sessions are open to all coding, billing, compliance and management professionals. Participants will attend either the Coding/Reimbursement or the Management Track. Each session will review, discuss and diagnose topics of discussion. After the lunch break, attendees will put their new skills to work participating in interactive groups designed to reinforce learning and incorporate some fun!
Coding/Reimbursement Track
The system-wide transformation to ICD-10 will touch everyone in health care in some way. For coders and billing staff, specifically, a major overhaul in the language used to communicate with third-party payers is currently underway. It will take several months to complete the conversion and several months before that to get up to speed on the language and levels of documentation necessary to properly work with ICD-10 codes. This session will ensure that all attendees are off to a running start.
Then, we’ll put your new knowledge to work in our first ever ICD-10 Coding Tournament! Team up to earn awards and win prizes.

Educating Physicians and Staff
So many of our participants have said that they wished their physicians could hear what we’re teaching. Now you can get everyone back at the office beating the same drum when you participate in our follow-up webinar. Invite your physician and key coding/billing staff to attend. The aim of this post-conference session is to reinforce what you learned with your physician(s) and colleagues.

Individual, Team and Organizational Productivity Do you control time, or is it controlling you?
Dear Pre-Conference Participant,
I would tell you that I’ve been working on this topic for sometime. The truth is, I’ve been a student of Time Management, Productivity, Efficiency and Technology for years. I have spent the better part of this past year traveling around the country doing business development. It has given me the chance to be a participant in many of our workshops. I’ve used the time during breaks and at lunch to talk with you. The “number one” sentiment I’m hearing is everyone is completely overwhelmed.
Overwhelmed is probably an over-simplification. People are STRESSED! A sense of “I’ll never get this all done,” and the reality of “there’s always more.” Why can’t the people around me, “do it right the first time?”
That’s where I want to focus for the Management Pre-Conference this year. In the morning we will work on individual productivity. We’ll discuss the myths and mysteries of multi-tasking. How in the world do I RELAX in the face of all this stress and anxiety? We’ll dive into some of the great productivity tools available today and talk about people’s most common obstacles to actually implementing tools and systems.
In the afternoon, we’ll talk about going back home and implementing what we’ve learned into the office environment. What would happen if you could increase your office productivity by 5, 10, or 25%? How much more effective could meetings be if they truly were more productive? We’ll discuss some of the obstacles of “change management.” We’ll talk about implementing “change” for a group.

Bonus: This doesn’t stop in New Orleans!
As an extra bonus, we’ll pull together a conference call as a follow up to our meeting in “The Big Easy.” We’ll determine as a group the best time within a few weeks of the conference, for a follow up call. We’ll all pull back together and discuss some of our successes, failures and obstacles.
I truly hope you’ll join us for this workshop. I say workshop because I encourage you to bring the things you currently use to “organize” your life. If it’s a paper calendar, bring it. If you use a computer, bring it. If you use your phone, I’m sure you’ll have it. If you use a combination of it all, you really need help! Just kidding, I do the same thing and will have all my stuff there as well.
Summary:
This pre-conference is not a one-stop, fix-it-all session. This is about starting down a path, a path to being more productive and efficient. The path ultimately leads to power and peace. Not to sound too cliché, but the simple act of being more organized makes life more peaceful.
When’s the last time you sat in front of a stack of anything? Bills? A giant to-do list? A shopping list for Christmas? When you truly sat down, put in the time and got it organized or completed, how did you feel? I’m assuming you found peace, and a sense of power. Gain that same type of feeling in both your daily life and at work.
My goal for any pre-conference participant is that you leave this workshop feeling renewed and inspired! That you leave with a sense of confidence, and the knowledge that you’re not alone!
See you in New Orleans!
