| ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE Hours: 40.00 CEUS: 4.00 Call or email for start date. This interactive Internet Certificate Program is a six-week, 40-hour continuing education program for nurses, social workers and other health care professionals. The focus of the program is assessment and management of Alzheimer's Disease from diagnosis until death. Assessment strategies identify stage of progression and are the basis for planning effective management. Management is by stage, using the Theory of Retrogenesis. Management includes strategies related to environment, behavior, interaction, and medication. Information about regulations and staff education is included. The program consists of six modules and is designed to be completed in six weeks. Each module includes reading assignments, study questions, case studies, PowerPoint presentations, video stream, and test questions. Learners interact with practitioners and faculty who are expert in the area of Alzheimer's Disease Management. A comprehensive examination will be administered at the end of the six-week program. A Certificate of Completion will be mailed following the completion of course assignments, a comprehensive online exam, and a course evaluation. Program Curriculum Instruction will include the following content: * Introduction, Diagnosis * Theoretical Basis for Management * Assessment and Goals by Stage * Management Strategies by Stage * Preventing and Managing Special Problems * Long Term Care: Meeting Regulations and Educating Others about Alzheimer's Disease * Features an "Ask the Expert" Session: National experts will be available to answer your most challenging Alzheimer's Disease Management questions. Continuing Education contact hours will be rewarded following successful completion of study guide questions, and online comprehensive examination, and submission of a course evaluation. NURSES will receive 48 contact hours. SOCIAL WORKERS will receive 40 contact hours. The University of Southern Indiana has been approved as a provider of continuing education for social workers. HEALTH FACILITY ADMINISTRATORS will receive 40 contact hours. The University of Southern Indiana has been approved by the Indiana State Board of Health Facility Administrators as a sponsor of continuing education programs for health facility administrators (License #98000033A). PHARMACISTS: Approval has been made for continuing education credit. Class links to USI. Offered in partnership with University of Southern Indiana. Log-on instructions will be emailed within 2-3 business day of registering. Equipment Required: Participants will need a computer with Internet access. They will also need an e-mail account. For optimum performance it is recommended that at a minimum the computer be a 486 50 MHz or higher with 16 MB of RAM, 200 MB hard disk space, Super VGA monitor and card with a minimum of 2 MB of RAM; and a modem speed of 28,800 or higher.
IMPORTANT! A 90 day period is given to complete the course regardless of the length of the course unless otherwise specified. After 90 days, access will be discontinued unless an extension fee is paid.
