Varied and diverse treatment options have evolved in pain management -- the need for advanced cutting-edge educational preparation has emerged. Effective pain management requires systematic, coordinated patient care management by prepared pain management providers. This program focuses on pain management issues, patient assessment and management, an overview of the pathophysiology of pain, pharmacology of pain management agents, nonpharmacological and invasive procedures, and treating special populations.

Who should attend?
This program is designed for English-speaking nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and other health care providers to increase their knowledge and expertise in managing pain and who have, or want to prepare for, responsibility for monitoring and managing patients diagnosed with pain. Nurses, pharmacists and case managers receive CEUs.

At the conclusion of the program the participant will be able to:
1. Explain the problem of pain and list pain management guidelines and policy statements
2. Describe trends in pain management in the past two decades
3. Describe strategies to improve pain management and identify methods to integrate pain assessment in the health care professionals practice
4. Identify appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions for pain management
5. Identify JCAHO and other national standards for pain management
