Provides training for individuals seeking billing and coding positions in physicians' offices, staffing facilities and in other healthcare arenas. Covers CPT and ICD-9-CM coding. This field is becoming more important than ever, as coding errors can cost physicians thousands of dollars in lost revenue yearly. Top coders have the potential to earn excellent salaries. Upon completion of this course, certification is recommended. What is coding? Medical coding transforms medical services, procedures, and diagnosis into number codes. These codes are assigned by the medical coder based on the information in the patient's medical record. Codes are necessary in order to obtain reimbursement from third-party payers as well as provide statistical data for research and development. PREREQUISITE: Participants must have successfully completed Medical Terminology BOA871 or have a healthcare background.
