April
12, 2012 - San Antonio - Practice Management Institute today announced that it
will work with The Continuing and Professional Development (CPD) division of
San Jacinto College to provide continuing education opportunities for medical
office professionals in the Houston area, beginning this month.
San
Jacinto College has been awarded nearly $300,000 from the Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development Fund to provide training for
health care careers, specifically in the area of medical coding.
The
grant will create and upgrade jobs, improving the workforce skills of medical
coding personnel in medical offices. PMI
curriculum and credentialing courses will be utilized for a huge portion of
this training.
The
grant proposal by San Jacinto College is in collaboration with a consortium of 10
medical offices in the Houston
area. Formed under the leadership of Kathy Hughes, executive director at the
Houston Metropolitan Health Network, the collaborative group worked with the
College to secure the funding with the goal of expanding and improving their
employee’s skills, meeting future patient needs, and keeping their offices of
physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly.
"I am very happy that PMI is
providing so much of the training for this grant! They are known as a
leader in physician practice training. The feedback I’m hearing from the
practices is all positive, both about the teachers and the course content,"
said Hughes.
The
CPD division of San Jacinto
College offers programs
and courses for individuals to retain or advance in their jobs, or make career
transitions. The CPD division also provides training to companies and their
employees to meet employers’ demands for a highly skilled workforce, while
helping incumbent workers reach their potential.
