Webinar/Audio Conference FAQs
Where are all the family physicians going? D.K. interviews Dr. Dave Webster, a family physician who will explain how factors such as rising malpractice insurance premiums, shrinking Medicare payments and an ever-growing income gap between primary care physicians and medical specialists are causing family physicians to leave the field.
Remember the good old days when every family physician knew their patient's name, was familiar with their family history, had a comprehensive overview of their various ailments and medicines and provided them with continuity in the world of fragmented medical specialties?
Why the shift in this critical health care role?
- Many family doctors are overwhelmed with patients, procedures and paperwork. Some of their services aren't paid, and many are leaving the field.
- Appointment wait times stretch into weeks and hours in waiting and exam rooms.
- Today, patients are more likely to find themselves searching for a family doctor who will take their insurance.
- Fewer individuals are choosing medicine as a career and, of those who do select health professions, even fewer are choos¬ing primary care.
