Bridging the Gap - Clinical Documentation & Coding Webinar Course

Schedule: Two 90 minute live webinar sessions on 6/6, 6/13, from 10 AM-11:30 AM Central Time (8 AM Pacific, 11 AM Eastern)
Fee: $199 per person *

Target Audience:Class content is relevant for medical office professionals responsible for accurate medical coding and billing in an outpatient healthcare setting.
Prerequisites:This is an intermediate-level class. Content assumes knowledge of outpatient coding and reimbursement. Participants will need a self-supplied, current ICD-10-CM code set manual to participate in this course.
Materials: Participants receive a digital course manual. Set meetings@meetings.readytalk.com as a Safe Sender in your email server.
CEUs: PMI certified professionals will earn 3 CEUs. A certificate is sent via email upon completion of the course.

Recorded sessions are available as a Self-paced Webinar Course in the Online Training Center approximately four days after the last recording date. Registrants for this webinar course will receive access to the session recordings and digital course manual for up to one year.

Program Description

Coders are the caretakers of complete reimbursement in a value-based era. This class will help coders work with providers to assess and gather the information needed in documentation to support appropriate code assignments. Instructor will go through examples and help participants answer the following questions:

  1. How effective are you at querying providers to extract complete and correct information from the documentation, i.e., "all of these words have to be in the documentation"?
  2. Do you understand 7th character usage and difference between initial and subsequent?
  3. Can you identify all the components necessary in the documentation to code to the highest degree of specificity?
  4. Have you minimized use of unspecified codes?
  5. Do you know the dangers of missed revenue, denials, and audit risks with punitive consequences?

  • Identify problems with clinical documentation
  • Provide strategies for maintaining effective communication and positive professional interaction between clinicians and coders
  • Focus on the documentation impact of patient quality care
  • Learn how quality reporting relates to clinical documentation
  • Establish guidelines for coding of medical records to their greatest level of specificity
  • Relay the value of ongoing performance measurement and support
  • Review common clinical documentation problems

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

PMI CEU APPROVED Earn 3 PMI CEUs for attendance at this program. Practice Management Institute grants CEUs for its certified professionals based on total number of instructional hours (1 CEU per hour of classroom instruction). CEUs may be applied to annual recertification requirements, as directed in the certification renewal requirements for your credential(s).

If you are seeking CEU credits for other certifications or organizations, please contact your organization for pre-approval and credit guidelines. A certificate of attendance will be provided.


About the Presenter

Pam has more than 20 years of medical practice management, coding, reimbursement and compliance experience. She has managed in medical practices ranging from single to multi-specialty groups, including ASC.
She is an advocate of process improvement and maximizing and empowering your employees to bring about the "best practice” results for your organization.

She received her Master’s in Management from University of Phoenix. She maintains memberships in professional organizations to support her continuing cycle of learning in the ever-changing healthcare industry. Prior to joining the PMI Instructor team she was an Adjunct Instructor
and served on three advisory boards at a community college in San Antonio.
