PMI Basics: Introduction to E/M Coding Webinar Course

Dates: Two 90-minute live webinar sessions on 10/19 and 10/26
Time: 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Central (10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern).
Fee: $$99 per person per person. This Webinar Course is not included as part of the Total Access subscription.
Target Audience:New outpatient coders and those seeking a refresher in E/M basics, as well as compliance and clinical staff seeking a grasp of E/M fundamentals should attend.
Prerequesites:This is a basic level course. Content assumes an awareness of the role of medical coding in relation to outpatient provider reimbursement. Participants should have a current CPT code set manual in order to participate fully in this course.
Materials: Participants receive a digital course manual. Set as a Safe Sender in your email server.
CEUs: PMI certified professionals will earn 3 CEUs. A certificate is sent via email upon completion of the course. If you are seeking CEUs for other organizations, contact them for pre-approval and credit guidelines.

This course will be recorded and available in PMI’s Online Training Center approximately four days after the last recording date. Registrants for this webinar course will receive access to these session recordings and digital course manual for up to one year.

Program Description

Many variables must be considered to determine the appropriate Evaluation and Management (E/M) code to use. This program will walk you through the fundamental principles underlying all evaluation and management coding and outline the steps that relate accurate code selection to proper reimbursement. Learn to identify and discuss the components of an E/M service focusing on the three key components, define medical necessity and comprehend the general rules for documenting E/M services.

Participants will be taught to identify the E/M category/subcategory, and determine the level of history, the extent of the exam performed and the complexity of the medical decision making. Learn when time is a factor in selecting the proper code. Gain insight into the major differences between the '95 and '97 documentation guidelines gain confidence for discussing the components of selecting the proper E/M code.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

PMI CEU APPROVED Earn 3 PMI CEUs for attendance at this program. Practice Management Institute grants CEUs for its certified professionals based on total number of instructional hours (1 CEU per hour of classroom instruction). CEUs may be applied to annual recertification requirements, as directed in the certification renewal requirements for your credential(s).

About the Presenter

Pam has more than 20 years of medical practice management, coding, reimbursement and compliance experience. She has managed in medical practices ranging from single to multi-specialty groups, including ASC.

She is an advocate of process improvement and maximizing and empowering your employees to bring about the "best practice” results for your organization.

She received her Master’s in Management from University of Phoenix. She maintains memberships in professional organizations to support her continuing cycle of learning in the ever-changing healthcare industry. Prior to joining the PMI Instructor team she was an Adjunct Instructor and served on three advisory boards at a community college in San Antonio.
