Coding by Specialty OB/GYN (Full day)

Increase Your Coding Skills, Avoid Costly Claim Denials and Delays

If you have been frustrated in the past by attending generic coding seminars that never mention your specialty then this program is for you. This hands on coding workshop focuses exclusively on CPT and ICD-9-CM coding for the OB/GYN practice. This course was designed specifically to answer the coding, reimbursement and documentation challenges facing the OB/GYN coding professional today.

It will include:

  • OB/GYN Terminology
  • CPT Coding
  • ICD-9-CM Coding
  • Proper use of Modifiers
  • Hands-on Coding Exercises
  • Medicare Guidelines
  • E&M Coding and Documentation

Who should attend?

  • Practice Administrators
  • Office Managers
  • Insurance/Billing Staff
  • Billing Companies
  • Nurse Midwives
  • Physicians
  • Family/General Practice Personnel

Are you concerned that you may be under-coding or possibly even over-coding services? Would your documentation and coding pass a Medicare audit?

It is difficult to keep up with the changing rules and regulations. Learn the latest on the Correct Coding Edits and how they impact your reimbursement.

CPT Coding

Keep up to date and ensure optimal reimbursement for services provided.

The session will discuss:

  • Laparoscopy/Hysteroscopy
  • Pap Smears
  • Well Woman Exams
  • CPT Maternity Care and Delivery Guidelines
  • Modifiers
  • Global Surgery packages
  • Proper Evaluation and Management Coding
  • Consultations vs. Referrals

Confused about billing for a well woman and problem oriented services on the same day? Are you aware of Medicare guidelines on Paps? What G-codes are appropriate to use?

ICD-9-CM Coding

Your ICD-9 code is used to justify why you performed a procedure or service. Without demonstrating adequate medical necessity for each procedure, claims may be denied or reimbursement substantially cut.

This session will discuss:

  • A walk through ICD-9-CM
  • Use of V codes in pregnancy
  • Coding complications of pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium
  • Finding the right fifth digit
  • Table of Neoplasms
  • Coding for Ectopic and Molar Pregnancies and Spontaneous Abortions

Do You Know?

  • Can you use the prolonged service codes with our OB/GYN procedure codes?
  • How do you code the vague signs and symptoms our patients sometimes present?
  • What is the best diagnosis to use for well-woman exams?
  • Do you have to use the package delivery codes or can I "unbundle" and bill items separately?
  • Which of the supervision ICD-9 codes are appropriate for obstetrics?
  • When and how to bill outside of the OB global package.

Participants, please bring your current CPT and ICD-9-CM coding manuals
