Upgrading Administrative Policies and Procedures

Prepare a well thought-out, up-to-date manual for use as an employee orientation tool, training guide and reference for your staff.

Course Agenda:

  • Outlining the goals and outcomes of having a policy manual  in place
  • The employee handbook vs. policies and procedures handbook
  • How to clearly establish workplace duties and responsibilities
  • Sample forms and reference materials
  • Types of policies that should be in place in every practice
  • Eliminating excessive use of jargon that clouds understanding
  • Knowing when to avoid detail and keep a policy brief
  • Avoiding potentially incriminating policies
  • Determining what should and should not be included in the  handbook
  • Implementing a disaster recovery policy
  • Avoiding the editor's 'red pencil'
  • How to avoid getting caught in employee handbook quicksand
  • Settle disputes before they start with careful word selection
  • The do's and don'ts for patient relations policies
  • How to accurately describe protocol for each function
  • Knowing what a policies and procedures manual cannot do for you

Protect computer equipment and set ground rules for employees when you learn how to implement Internet and email policies

  • Privacy policies are a must to comply with HIPAA regulations. But your plan shouldn't stop there. Make sure policies address other key areas of the practice.

  • Stop 'reacting' to situational problems. Handbooks should be comprehensive enough to cover most workplace situations and provide a uniform and proactive environment.

    Classroom Presentation:
Participants will learn guidelines for writing or updating a policies and procedures manual. Learn key phrases and wording, how to protect the practice legally and what can and cannot be enforced. The instructor will explain how to outline benefits, duties and responsibilities for improved workplace performance.

    Who Should Attend:
Office managers and practice administrators that have a hand in creating and maintaining staff policies should plan to attend this program.

    Course Materials:
A course manual will be provided to each participant, which includes sample forms. No additional materials are required for this course.
