A coding enthusiast, DeInda Davis, CMC, has over 19 years of direct experience as an advocate for patients assisting with making sure that the providers who take care of them understand the various aspects of billing, coding, and compliance. DeInda is currently the Director of Education with Healthcare Express a multi-location collection of Urgent Care, Physical Therapy, Imaging, and Aesthetics Clinics based in Texarkana. In this role, she works with various providers and coders to understand both ICD-10 coding and CPT coding concepts.
She began her journey in the medical field in 2004 as a medical office receptionist where she gained great insight into the patient's perspective of their visit to a provider's office. DeInda quickly advanced to the Insurance billing and follow-up area where she assisted patients further with understanding how that visit was paid by their insurance carrier, and what their out-of-pocket expenses were related to. She specifically focused on Medicare payer-specific guidelines and eventually transitioned to Blue Cross Blue Shield focusing on the more commercial payer-specific guidelines. DeInda continued to expand her knowledge by moving to the actual technical billing process where she worked on claim edit reports which strengthened her understanding of the need for precise coding. After a few years in this area, she has gained further experience through working in multi-specialty facility settings.
DeInda has always had a passion for education and began formally educating others on billing and coding in 2019. She continues to work with providers at Healthcare Express and coders on updated guidelines, payor policy changes, payor process changes, and organizational workflow changes. All of these are very much a necessity to keep the Revenue Cycle flowing smoothly for any medical office.
Her current focus is on implementing and educating 2021 E/M and 2023 E/M Changes to both providers and coders, as well as various other Revenue Cycle team members. This education is key in ensuring a smooth transition for both the organization and the individual.
DeInda has successfully maintained her coding certification with Practice Management Institute since 2016.
