ICD-10-CM Coding Update

ICD-10-CM codes are updated annually on October 1, impacting a variety of specialties. This course covers details on the annual update for FY 2022 - for patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022. The instructor will take you on a guided tour of the major changes in each Chapter of ICD-10-CM and address all that your providers and coders must know for proper code assignment and claim submissions beginning October 1.

The Introduction to the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting states that 'a joint effort between the healthcare provider and the coder is essential to achieve complete and accurate documentation, code assignment, and reporting of diagnoses and procedures.' Don’t let improperly coded claims put a choke hold on your revenue. In this informative program we have gathered all the facts about what is new for diagnostic coding to ensure your team - and EHR system - will be updated with the most current codes. General highlights for new, revised, and deleted codes will be reviewed along with the latest reporting guidelines available. Attend this session to ensure your providers are informed of these changes:

  • 159 new codes
  • 32 code revisions
  • 20 deleted

New additions include a code for post COVID condition. The top 10 chapters with new code additions, and the specialties most directly impacted by them, will be highlighted:

  • Chapter 19 - Injuries and Poisonings
  • Chapter 13 - Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System
  • Chapter 21 - Factors Influencing Health
  • Chapter 18 - Signs, Symptoms, and Abnormal Clinical and Laboratory Findings
  • Chapter 11 - Diseases of the Digestive System
  • Chapter 6 - Diseases of the Nervous System
  • Chapter 16 - Conditions Originating in the Perinatal Period
  • Chapter 12 - Diseases of Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue
  • Chapter 3 - Diseases of the Blood and Blood Forming Organs
  • Chapter 2 - Neoplasms

In addition, a significant number of number of changes to the Excludes 1 and Excludes 2 notes will be reviewed. Participants will receive digital course materials with a summary of all code changes plus an explanation of the changes and their potential impact on the practice.
