OSHA Guidance for the Medical Practice

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the primary federal agency responsible for setting and enforcing workplace safety and health standards in the U.S., and plays a critical role in establishing guidance that protect both healthcare workers and patients from occupational hazards. Review OSHA standards most relevant to clinical facilities:

  • Workplace hazards in healthcare settings
  • Infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hazard communication
  • Musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomics
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Workplace violence
  • Natural and human-caused disasters
  • Patient safety
  • Reporting and record keeping
