Certified Medical Coder

Advanced coding skills limit audit liability and demonstrate to payers and auditors enhanced knowledge. This certification program will teach outpatient coding mastery. A CMC performs an integral role in the reimbursement process ensuring that proper documentation guidelines are followed and that codes are submitted to the highest degree of specificity. Designed for experienced, physician-based coding professionals, the CMC certification demonstrates to employers and business associates advanced knowledge and skills in working with complex problem sets and making proper code selections.

Recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and leading healthcare organizations nationwide, the Certified Medical Coder (CMC) certification validates achievement as a competent coding professional. Candidates for CMC certification should have a minimum of one year of experience coding in an outpatient setting.

This course includes the following resources:

  1. Supplemental Training:
CMC candidates with limited coding experience should complete these supplementary courses (included with enrollment) before beginning the CMC curriculum: Medical Terminology for Coders, ICD-10-CM Code Update, and CPT Code Update
  2. Physical course manual: three-ring binder with tabbed sections, workbook exercises, exam preparation handbook, and practice exam.
  3. Instructor-led sessions with coding exercises, a practice exam, and course review.
  4. A proctored certification exam. If a passing score is not achieved on the first attempt, the candidate can re-test for an additional fee
Important notes about the CMC course:
  1. Students will need current editions of the CPT®, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM coding books, and a medical dictionary for this course.
  2. CMC candidates with less than a year of coding experience should complete PMI's free Medical Coding Assessment prior to the first class meeting and complete supplemental training included with this class.
  3. Seating is limited, register early to ensure your spot!
