Webinar/Audio Conference FAQs

Hospital coding occurs in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Hospital visits can start in the office by direct admit, from outpatient ambulatory centers, from emergency room visits, from outpatient procedures or from outpatient radiology procedures. Where these visits take place and who places the patient there is what drives the coding.

Libby Purser has prepared an informative 60-minute session that will guide you through the correct use of these codes. Learn about the main code ranges as well as the circumstances for use of these codes:

  • Outpatient codes: 99201-99205, 99212-99215
  • Observation codes: 99218-99220, 99224-99226, and 99217
  • Inpatient codes: 99221-99223, 99231-99233, and 99238 or 99239
  • Same date admission/discharge from observation and inpatient status: 99234-99236
  • Admission and discharge on the same date for inpatient status: 99234-99236
  • Consultation codes: 99241-99245 and 99251-99255
  • Discharge codes
  • Emergency Room visits
  • Critical Care Service
