Is your practice obtaining a properly executed Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) every time it is needed? Your staff must be properly trained to discuss the ABN form with patients and determine whether they wish to receive the service and pay out of pocket for it (in advance of the service being rendered). If you fail to obtain the ABN, you cannot bill the patient.

Attend this session to understand the correct use of the ABN form and the risks of improper usage. Learn when the ABN is required and when it is optional. Know what to do when a patient refuses to sign an ABN. Understand that improper use or completion of ABNs cost the practice and could potentially trigger an audit or an investigation. About the Presenter

GeoJan has more than 25 years of health care experience in all phases of management, business operations, state and federal regulations. She has worked in billing and collection operations, human resources, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, employee benefit programs, monthly management reports and reconciliations, daily financial activities, scheduling, OSHA regulations, CLIA regulations, radiology and laboratory operations. She has hands-on experience in all phases of insurance, including worker’s compensation and HMOs. GeoJan has developed programs for physician office training, and founded a local office managers association. She has specialized training in insurance, coding and has worked in collections for two large hospital systems. She has recent experience onboarding physicians and setting up and managing medical practices as the Market Operations Manager.
