Webinar/Audio Conference FAQs

Evaluation and Management (E/M) services are reported and audited more than any other healthcare service. Medical coders and auditors are tasked with the responsibility of understanding the rules that govern E/M coding and to correctly interpret and consult the many resources and guidelines that accompany it. Yet for new and experienced coders, questions about E/M often arise.

Many coders that regularly attend meetings and read articles about E/M still report uncertainty and walk away with more questions. Which set of guidelines should we use - 1995 or 1997? Does medical decision making have to be one of the two components to determine an E/M level for established patients? How will cloning affect us in an audit? What must be documented to select a level of service based only on time?

Attend this live webinar session and address your concerns before your practice receives an audit notification. Aimee Wilcox will answer questions and help you improve your confidence and ability to select the proper level of E/M service. Gather your team in the conference room for this session to receive the greatest benefit for your practice.

  • The difference between 1995 and 1997 guidelines
  • Learn how to get the maximum score from the exam component
  • Receive tips on HPI, ROS, and PFSH scoring
  • Dealing with EHR copy/paste and pull forward information functions
  • 3 keys to medical decision making
  • Know how to determine the level of medical necessity
  • What triggers an audit and how to best prepare for one (it is coming your way)
  • Providing feedback to providers that promotes learning and improved documentation

Prepare now for the CMS E/M changes that will impact your claims in 2019 and beyond. Be sure you are familiar with the latest E/M rules and internal processes that your practice will need to have in place to maximize benefits and protect against losses in the new year.

Aimee will clear up confusion related to E/M code selections for the emergency department, observation unit, outpatient hospital setting, and the critical care unit. For the coder that is paid based on productivity, she will review the pros and cons of speed coding and identify techniques and tools that help maximize productivity.
