Course Content

This virtual class series instructs on proper code selection (ICD-10-CM, CPT®/EM, and HCPCS) for provider services in an outpatient healthcare practice. The instructor will review current coding guidelines and walk students through a variety of real world medical coding scenarios from numerous specialties, highlighting common errors that can lead to denied or rejected claims. Includes instruction on medical terminology, CPT terminology, documentation guidelines, and ancillary services, and will help coding professionals communicate more effectively with providers, payers, patients, and business associates, and help to ensure proper claim submission / accurate payment for services rendered. Prerequisites

This intensive certification course is designed for those with a minimum of one year’s work experience. Students with less experience should consider completing fundamental coding training included in the Medical Coding Bundle. Take the Free Assessment to test your base knowledge.

Live, Interactive Learning, Online Resources, and Instructor Support

Students participate remotely by attending live online classes. Virtual classroom participants are invited to engage with the instructor and their peers during these interactive class sessions. CMC students gain 24/7 online access to the recorded classes and digital materials plus bonus resources: Step-by-Step Coding Guide and Medical Terminology for Coders for the duration plus 6 months following the class conclusion. Student support is offered via email and attendance of ongoing instructor-led group study sessions. Individual mentoring sessions are also available by request.

Certification Exam Information

The initial certification examination fee is waived for 12 months. PMI’s Certified Medical Coder (CMC) exam is a six-hour, fill-in-the-blank style test. A passing score of 70 percent or better is required to earn the CMC credential. When a passing grade is not achieved on the initial exam attempt, the candidate may re-test for an additional fee following a 60-day waiting period.
